Stephen D Owen, author of Iceni: The Year of Sacrifice, has been invited to take part in TriumphOfTheNow.com‘s “Ten Words or Fewer” interview format! (The ten word limit is not strict.)

Read on below!
Q: What is the title of your book?
A: The title of my book is Iceni: The Year of Sacrifice.
Q: Why did you choose this title?
A: I chose this title because a major theme is sacrifice, as the Iceni tribe face the threat of Roman power.
Q: What’s the book about?
A: The novel is the first in a trilogy that tells the story of the revolt of Queen Boudica and the Iceni tribe against Roman rule in Britain, during 60-61AD. The themes of the novel are the struggle of the Iceni and the druid priests against the power of Rome. The preservation of the worship of the old gods and earth goddess against Roman imperialism.
The central characters are Boudica, and a druid priest named Arminius, who sacrifice all to save the world of the Iceni from a bleak Roman future.
Q: Why did you write this book?
A: I wrote the novel because I wished to tell the story of the revolt of Queen Boudica and the Iceni tribe against Rome. The high drama of the Iceni Revolt has captured the historical imagination. The enduring story of the wronged and repressed against imperial power.
Q: Why do you write, generally?
A: I wish to tell a story, share my thoughts and knowledge with an audience.
Q: Where/how do you write?
A: I usually write at home in my office and study. I have a system of creating a framework for a plot, chapters, characters and story, then expanding to form the novel.
Q: What/who do you read?
A: I read widely. Bestselling authors of historic fiction such as Conn Iggulden and Simon Scarrow. Fantasy authors such as David Gemmell and Terry Brooks. Classic authors such as Daphne du Maurier, and the works of William Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
Q: Why do you read?
A: I read to expand my mind and imagination.
Q: Where/when you do read?
A:I often read in the afternoon or when I take a break from writing, in a relaxing environment at home or elsewhere.
Q: Describe the ideal reader of your book.
A: The ideal reader of my book would be someone like me. A voracious reader of historic fiction. Someone who likes to reimagine the past.

Q: How do you relax?
A: I often relax with music, a good book and a chilled drink.
Q: Are we alone in the universe?
A: I like to think there is other intelligent life out there.
Q: Do you listen to music?
A: I listen to all kinds of music, from folk, classical, to rock. Music helps me relax and find my creative muse.
Q: Do you have a mantra? If willing, please share.
A: “Focus every day, if you wish to realise your dream.”
