Q: What is the title of your book?
A: Figures Crossing the Field Towards the Group.
Q: Why did you choose this title?
A: It chose me.
Q: What’s the book about?
A: A girl who goes out for a walk.
Q: Why did you write this book?
A: It was time.

Q: And why now?
A: It was time.
Q: Why do you write, generally?
A: That’s for me to know, and others to be confused by.
Q: Are you working on any new projects?
A: Yes.
Q: What/who do you read?
A: Your innermost tea leaves.
Q: Why do you read?
A: To keep Bill Hicks from spinning in his comedy grave.
Q: What are your politics/values?
A: To treat others as I would wish to be treated.
Q: Why might someone with oppositional politics/values enjoy your book? If they wouldn’t, do you regret that?
A: Because they can read.
Q: Describe the ideal reader of your book.
A: A 19th century coal miner with one eye.
Q: Are we alone in the universe?
A: Only when we feel alone in a crowd.
Q: Do you listen to music?
A: All the time. Sometimes it listens back.
Q: What differentiates us from the animals?
A: Nothing important.
Q: Do you have a mantra? If willing, please share.
A: True gold fears not the test of fire.

Q: Which film/movie[s] from the past five years do you think will be future classics?
A: Eggers’ Nosferatu, Rehmeier’s Dinner in America.
Q: What’s the best decision you’ve ever made?
A: To devote myself to art, whatever follows.
Q: What is “cool”?
A: Refusing to answer this question.
Q: Do you like routine or spontaneity?
A: Yes.
Q: What do you need to thrive?
A: Peace of mind and an artistic direction.
Q: What do you need to survive?
A: A lead pipe.
Q: What don’t you eat?
A: Anything with eyes, apart from potatoes.
Q: What is a soul?
A: I don’t know, but everything I do is about its reinstatement.
Q: Have you ever been on a pilgrimage? If yes, where to?
A: To an England in delirium.
Q: Have you ever written any songs? If yes, describe your sound.
A: Car driving lonely road at magic hour.
Q: What’s the biggest thing you’ve personally destroyed?
A: The cynicism of my youth.
