IAN ASSERSOHN: NEW VIDEO INTERVIEW

a new video interview with Ian Assersohn, author of The Lampmaker

I recently recorded an interview with Ian Assersohn about his new novel, The Lampmaker. Watch/listen below to hear more about it!

The novel touches on all sorts of themes including migration, art, craft, prejudice and hope, telling the narrative of two brothers fleeing the state-backed anti-Semitism of imperial late 19th-century Russia to the (comparatively) friendlier London.

Our conversation explores the value of culture, the importance of different forms of Art, responses to pandemics/epidemics and why looking at and engaging with history is an essential thing to do when looking towards the future.

The self-portrait mentioned by Ian later in the chat is Self Portrait in a Straw Hat by Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun – check out the National Gallery’s page about it here: https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/elisabeth-louise-vigee-le-brun-self-portrait-in-a-straw-hat
