Film Musings

july/aug/sept movie watching round up

what I was watching in July, August, September 2025

One of my 2025 resolutions is to watch more movies! See what happened in June here!

–///–

Ok so I forgot to post one of these for the past three months.

And that’s because I watched one film in July and it was bad (I’ve remembered it as being worse than I clearly thought it was at the time), I watched two very bad films in August but then I started watching some great stuff, once a week, and had a great time doing so.

Highlights for me have been Transit (a breathtaking piece about war, bravery, love and desperation), Crossroads (a fucking phenomenal and simple piece of anti-nuclear bomb video art from the 1970s), and A Bigger Splash (Luca Guadagnino doing what he does). Paul B. Preciado’s Orlando, My Political Biography is also something I’d kinda recommend, its content and writing being far far far better than its technical/structural qualities. It may be the only time I’ve ever watched something with an unexpected musical number that I didn’t love.

For full comments, look to my Letterboxd. For basic ratings and that all important heart or an absence of it, see below:
