I haven’t read the books. I haven’t Googled the author. I haven’t tailored the interview questions or limited the word count. This is a raw, unfiltered, impersonal interview. Prepare to meet Theophilus Garcia, author of The Malingerer.

Q: What is the title of your book?
A: The title of the book is The Malingerer.
Q: Why did you choose this title?
A: The title signifies something that persists, namely, in this context, patriotism as through the eyes of a young inexperienced man who is eager to learn in serving his country. The malingerer is a person who will never flinch in doing his best in the service of his country, and has no boundaries in achieving his goals. Even, murder. So malingering is persistence indefinitely.
Q: Why might someone with oppositional politics/values enjoy your book? If they wouldn’t, do you regret that?
A: I would like the reader to have an open-mind and to question whether patriotism is the solution. The main personality has a social conscience awakened in him, and this is due to the methods used over the years, as well as his children becoming alienated from. So, the reader should begin to question what he himself believes in. It is not enough to believe what you wish to believe, but to question yourself as well as your country!
Q: Are you working on any new projects?
A: I am preparing a sequel to The Malingerer, involving the main person’s son, who is now at peace with his late Father’s actions, and wishes to help someone on “Death Row”.
Q: How do you relax?
A: Interested in stories of redemption of the individual, be it movie form or literature. I also am a Minister Of Religion and I bring to the fore the spiritual values of the Bible to a congregation. My music is founded on the late 1960’s which were stream consciousness as well as a protest. I believe that Spiritual values are very important to all of us.
Q: What differentiates us from the animals?
A: Sacrificial love which is the embodiment of Christianity. Logic. And Consciousness.
Q: Which film/movie[s] from the past five years do you think will be future classics?
A: Miranda’s Law, 2023. Promising Young Woman, 2020. Pain Hustlers, 2023.
Q: What’s the best decision you’ve ever made?
A: Marrying my wife who is the quirky, perfect soulmate.
Q: If you could meet a historical figure for a chat over a beverage, who would it be?
A: Interviewing JFK, RFK and Winston Churchill.
Q: What’s the last movie you watched? How was it?
A: The Roses. Witty exploration of selfishness destroying a marriage, a commentary on greed failing a couple and a lacklustre ending which does not give indication of the results of hidden resentments.
Q: George Michael sang, “You’ve got to have faith.” Was he right?
A: Yes, he was right. Faith though, has to be based on something more than hope. Based on the proof of what cannot be seen, but is available in other means.
Q: Do you sincerely believe in anything broadly considered a “conspiracy theory”? What is it?
A: Resentment of decisions being made regardless of the cost to other lives, i.e American Deep State, or in the UK the “Establishment”.
Synopsis:
In a world of covert operations and hidden truths, The Malingerer unravels the complex and gripping journey of a man whose life has been defined by secrets and sacrifice. Jackson Duvall, a man deeply entangled in the shadows of his own making, finds his world shattered by the loss of his wife and a rift with his children. The facade of duty and patriotism that once drove him now seems hollow as he faces the consequences of his hidden past.
As Jackson wrestles with his own demons and the disapproval of his sons, the boundaries between loyalty, morality, and family are tested. When his past catches up with him, revealing long-buried secrets, Jackson must confront the very ideals that shaped his life.
In the poignant epilogue, Jackson’s sons—Thaddeus, a devout priest, and Copeland, a disillusioned activist—come to terms with their father’s legacy, forced to reconcile their own beliefs with the man they thought they knew.
The Malingerer is a masterful exploration of duty, redemption, and the unspoken sacrifices that define our lives. With its intricate narrative and emotional depth, this book challenges readers to question what lies beneath the surface of devotion and the true cost of living a life shrouded in secrecy.
For fans of complex characters, historical intrigue, and emotional depth, The Malingerer is an unforgettable read that will stay with you long after the final page.
