Will Ashon – noted novelist, journalist and writer of that 2019 Wu-Tang Clan book that you’ve almost certainly seen in your favourite trendy independent bookstore (presuming you are my correct target demographic), Chamber Music: Enter the Wu-Tang (in 36 Pieces) – provided a glowing blurb for my latest book, the pleasure of regret.
Will had the following to say, opening with a brief quote from the text itself:
“I believe fears lose potency when discussed.”
In the pleasure of regret, Scott Manley Hadley seeks to test his axiom to destruction, as he batters again and again at the limits of what it’s wise to share. It’s this injudicious commitment to honesty at all costs which makes this short, sometimes fragmentary memoir both shocking and compelling. The bravery displayed throughout is exhilarating and strangely uplifting.
“Honesty at all costs” sums up my strange, sad, indiscreet text!
It was an honour to be given such praise from a respected writer who had literally nothing to gain from being nice to me! Because of the absence of a transactional motive, you can (well, I can) take solace in Will Ashon’s comment being honest and – as regular readers of mine will know – nothing is as important to me as honesty. Yes, at all costs.
Thanks again, Will! And those who haven’t – order my book!
