Reading Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities while in Venice is like:
— –
— — –
— —
—- — —
—
i was going to write a list of metaphors that summed that up, but it boils down to this, that it is pointless to do so
to read a description of the magical place in which you are is to not be in that magical place
i put the book down and wandered the city
it is very good
but reading it in venice is…
well, it’s a little gauche
