TEN WORDS OR FEWER INTERVIEW: J.S. Morton, author of You’re Gone

interview with J.S. Morton, author of You're Gone

J.S. Morton, author of You’re Gone, has been invited to take part in TriumphOfTheNow.com‘s “Ten Words or Fewer” interview format!

Read on below!

Q: What is the title of your book?
A: The title of the book is ‘You’re Gone’.

Q: Why did you choose this title?
A: I chose this title because Arthur (the protagonist) talks to his now-dead wife, and at one point, he says, ‘You’re gone’ to her.

Q: What’s the book about?
A: It is about a depressed serial killer (who only kills bad people) who is on a hiatus from killing because he is suffering from anxiety and depression following the death of his wife.

Q: Why did you write this book?
A: I am a big fan of dark comedy, and I wanted to have a shot at my own. I was also in a bad place mentally, and the catharsis from writing this was huge.

Q: Why do you write, generally?
A: I enjoy writing; it is an escape from life. I also hope that someone, somewhere, will take something from what I have written.

Q: Where/how do you write?
A: I tend to write tuckered up at home, with music on, behind my computer. I write whatever comes to my head, usually at night.

Q: What/who do you read?
A: I read just about anything. My favourites are Margaret Atwood, George Orwell, Jeff Lindsay, and Caroline Kepnes.

Q: Why do you read?
A: I read because I enjoy it and because it offers an escape from life.

Q: Where/when you do read?
A: I read anytime, anywhere.

Q: What are your politics/values?
A: I believe in kindness. I hold political values, but everyone has an opinion, and most of them are wrong, so I don’t tend to discuss them. Except for fascism, which is always wrong.

Q: Why might someone with oppositional politics/values enjoy your book? If
they wouldn’t, do you regret that?

A: My book is a dark comedy, some people might not like that, but that’s life.

Q: Describe the ideal reader of your book.
A: Someone who loves dark comedy and something a little bit subversive.

Q: How do you relax?
A: I read a book or listen to some music.

Q: Are we alone in the universe?
A: I really hope not.
