Wow! A minor major milestone has been hit, and my first ever long form solo show performance has received its first review! As in keeping with me (scott manley hadley) and the show itself (BALD PERSONALITY DISORDER), this isn’t a publication you will necessarily have heard of before, but it’s good and great and fun to have gotten some kind of response from someone living in the world and watching and engaging with performance.

Does it mean much? In a way, yes, it is nice to be seen and known, though it continues to be a little disappointing that in spite of directly discussing my disavowal of gender binaries in my show, I do still get he/him-ed consistently in all of these commentaries. Oh well!
Maybe you should make more of this, close people suggest, but I already made lots about this in my book hip-hop-o-crit, so go read that.
These reviews also, yes, do mean something positive in that they all push further down the Google search results the negative reviews of this blog that appear every few years when I comment too much on a novel by an angry young man (TM). This has happened more than once (it’s happened twice), and though I read the first one (it was mean), I didn’t read the second, because after posting that one the author emailed me to apologise, so I imagine it probably isn’t a piece of writing I’d get much out of looking over. I already hate myself and see myself as having literally no value, so seeing someone else agreeing with that isn’t the kind of self-affirming act I openly do these days.
Actually, I suppose I don’t “hate” myself any more, though I think I am indifferent to me, often, in a way that very much does come across as the equivalent of neglect-fuelled self-destruction.
But not always!
